As we are rather impatient, we decided to walk to a larger border crossing, about 500m away. In reality it was surrounded by fences and very difficult to get to. This short walk turned into a big trek for ~3 hours. In the end, we walked back to our original crossing.
Ended up hitching with this amazing truck driver. Spoke brilliant English and was very eccentric. He even have Tommy a kilo of tobacco... For free. Kind chap.
However, about 30 minutes from Zagreb, a tire on his trailer exploded, meaning we had to stop on the highway for 4 hours while he fixes it.
He made a few calls and arranged for a friend of his to drive us into the centre of Zagreb to save us waiting around. Can't thank him enough. One of the funniest hitches by far.
