Frank Phillips, founder of Phillips 66 which later became ConocoPhillips, was well known for his adventuresome spirit. When he established this property, they found a lot of early American artifacts which then spawned his interest in Native American art. He had a great interest in weapons and amassed one of the largest Colt firearms collections in the world.

A quick four hour drive from where we live made it an easy decision to finally pop up and see the Native American Museum in Washington DC. Although it was chilly, it was a beautiful sunny day and not too crowded. Opened around 2003, it does a phenomenal job not only featuring North American tribes but also Central and South American tribes.

Our day started in Berkeley, then a stop in Oakland to pick up the kids. Onward to SF where we visited the Natural Science Museum and Aquarium. Dinner in the city after that. A really nice day, all in all.
