So glad to be leaving this dire whole, Nagykanisza. Jumped on a bus for pennies with a load of old locals. Noone spoke English so we just hoped our bus was correct. <br />

I thought I lived in the middle of nowhere. This really is nowhere. Incredible countryside though and a brilliant journey. Starting to feel amazingly adventurous.

So, we didn't manage to hit the border, got a lift to Siófok, in central Hungary, where we were dropped at the quietest service station I have ever seen. 1 car every 5-10 minutes.
Saw on the map there was a railway closer to the lake, so decided to risk it and walk to the nearest station.

The weather was closing, with thick fog covering the the lake (Europe's largest) but it looked incredible nonetheless.

We arrived at the so called station (a concrete embankment next to the rails and saw a train timetabled for a town near the Croatian border. We decided immediately that that was what we were going to do. However, as we were in central Hungary, noone spoke a word of English. Jumped on the train anyway.

It was like something out of a film. The trip to 3 hours and cost 1,470HUF (£4) and was one of the most surreal experiences of my life.

However, it did drop us in a town that looked like it had been used to film multiple horror movies. It was dead at 10.00 on a friday with no restaurants open.

We're now booked into a dirt cheap hotel, with plans to wake early and cross the Croatian border. Finally.
