We awoke to a loud noise. My first thought was unfortunately true. A black bear had ripped open our outer trash compartment door and was snacking on his find. After a brief period of freaking out, we gathered ourselves and called the resort front desk. A bellman drove out with his suburban and scared the bear away. The bear was not easily intimidated however, and it took a good 5 minutes for him to disappear into the trees. At this point, the man and I braved the scene and gathered the strewn trash. Thankfully, he was able also to equip us with a can of bear spray for the night.
He just came back! Sniffed around for a bit this time, then retreated back to the trees. Of course, we've relocated the trash and so apparently there was not enough incentive for him to rip open our compartment door (which, amazingly, was not broken the first time). Hopefully that is the last we see of him. Now...can valeska or I go back to sleep? That remains to be seen.
