On the ferry from Swartz Bay to Tswassen. Can there be anything more beautiful than this? It takes my breath away.
We were stood in a queue outside a cafe yesterday morning when the two Canadian males behind us were discussing Romney's trip to the UK. One said that he'd been upsetting the British, and the other said who cares, its only the British. We smiled to ourselves and carried on talking.
It will be nice to return home for the English approach to tax and tips. Here the price you see for most things is before tax. 12.5% is added at the till so you never know exactly how much it will be, and sometimes forget that it'll be more than it says. The Canadians typically tip between 15 and 20%. You're only meant to tip 10% if you're not that happy. So if you buy food out, or drinks for that matter, you have to remember to add on the tip (as well as the tax) in your head before working out how much it will be. Cost of living here is not that cheap. And tax plus tip keeps catching me out.
