Really enjoyed this short IMAX film
about the building of the transcontinental railway through the Rockies. It's the closest I'm going to those mountains this year. Love the train that loops over itself to gain height. Lots of interesting history too. Oh, and it was a proper IMAX screen... 61 metres high and 85 metres wide!

Did nature design
to adorn the hats
of over-stuffed
creatures,
needing to
feather their
insatiable egos?

Your crowns spotlight
showcases your elegance
the regal blues and greens
shine brighter
than any tailor's cloth
could conceive

Had you but a brown waistcoat,
and grey jacket,
you would be free to come
and go as you please
along with the rest of the flock

But instead your beauty
binds you,
your kingdom is a cage,
your reign falls
at the edge of the fence,
where you call
and plead to trade
your riches,

A servant to the masses
who come to stare,
to say they've seen you,

Majesty
reduced to
sideshow
curiosity

I found your bench Sue!!

The notes drifted
till all that was left
was a lack
a gaping hole of
nothingness
only an echo
of silence
the thumping heart
beating it's own
unanswerable tune
breathing without
speakers
the voice singing
with no sound

Spent the day at Beacon Hill park. It's not big, but it's really nice. Herons are one of my favourite birds, and there were lots. At one point I counted six in one tree. We saw lots of interesting plants and animals. In one little lake there were turtles. They are a symbol of health, longevity, good luck and protection from evil. At the top of Beacon Hill we sat and had lunch (home made salad wraps) looking across at the mountains in the distance. There was a Navy band playing at a stage in the park, so we listened for a while, they were quite good. We also called at Booster Juice on the way home. I had a small Mango Hurricane. Off to see the 'Rocky Mountain Express' film this evening (probably the closest we'll get to the Rockies). We're really enjoying our time in Victoria. It's very relaxing (even if our room in the hostel is tiny!) Its warm out, people are friendly, it's a clean and peaceful place to be.

I got my first Canadian sunburn a couple of days ago. Peeved at myself cos I'm usually more careful. It was cloudy the day before and I didn't realise how burnt I was getting. We were only sat out for around an hour too. This is one mistake I plan to learn from!
