The Ipad and Iphone have been fantastic since we've been here. I wouldn't change them for anything else. Today I'm using a pc and it feels weird. The keys are unfamiliar and I keep mistyping. It feels clunky, and old fashioned, and like using a computer from the 80's. Its really not that old at all, it has Windows XP, and a flat screen monitor. But it feels weird.
Beehappy's Tuesday July 3rd, 2012
We get to sleep in a bed! And there's an inside toilet and a shower with a removable hose :) Strange how something so simple can make me so happy! It seems very relaxed here. There's a wwoofer from Cornwall already here. She says that our hosts are very kind, and 'can't do enough for you'. They are taking us to listen to some bluegrass this evening, and on Saturday they're going to show us the market in Duncan, and take us on a totem tour which explains the meanings of the carvings.Think its going to be a good week!
An unknown horizon
woven from pieces,
fragments,
of past
textiles
threaded together
spun, reeled, sewn.
Patches of possibility.
Unpicking the present,
stitching what once was,
folding, layering.
Moments,
glimpses,
mini almost-seconds.
Free-falling into the future.
They say you can judge a person's character by their handshake. I've had some pretty firm welcoming grips since arriving in Canada :) I think you can also judge a person by their hug. This is my yardstick, although admittedly there are some people I wouldn't want to hug! Children are best at hugging because they're unselfconscious.
Good job we watched out bags when we changed buses in Nanaimo yesterday. After a 90 min wait, there was a mad rush for the bus. Turned out there were two buses and we were on the quieter one, which was good. Whilst queuing I checked our bags were in the luggage compartment, and they were. Less than a minute later someone unloaded the whole compartment, including our bags, onto the adjacent bus. They were labelled for our destination. When I went to tell the baggage handler, he looked at me as if I'd put him out. I'm so relieved we were paying attention. And my internal complaint letter to Greyhound is getting longer.
Canadian stores don't sell Halloumi. We've looked lots of times! It was advertised in a cafe once but when I asked for it they didn't have any.I'm on a mission to find some! I'm thinking when we have our break in Victoria in 3 weeks that would be the best place to look.
